The Palestinian People: No Peace Without Justice
The Palestinian issue had started long before the disaster of 1948. But that year marked the historical beginning of the Palestinian catastrophe (Nakba) since thousands of Palestinians fled away leaving their homes and towns behind, which later were destroyed by Jewish soldiers. To the Israelis, this year was the birth of “their state”. It was “their” war of independence. Britain played a major role in this historical turning point. Now, those Palestinians live as refugees in neighbouring countries. After 1948, the West Bank was taken over by the Jordanians, while the Gaza Strip came under Egyptian authority.
After the June 6-day war of 1967, which witnessed the defeat of the Arab states, the Israeli army ruled over all historical Palestine. Since then, Israeli (Jewish) settlements have been built, and are still expanding all over the Arab occupied territories. Since then, again, numerous peace initiatives were launched by international bodies, and dominating powers, but achieved no true peace on the ground. Meanwhile, the Palestinian suffering continues. Palestinians are killed on a daily basis. Humiliation is seen at every checkpoint at every road in the West bank. 1.5 million Palestinians are under siege in Gaza Strip, while the whole world stands watching! The only thing Palestinians demand is true justice.
